Halloween Bilingual Activity –Chinese Paper Cutting

Date: October 22, 2013 Author: Jing Wang Categories: Bilingual Activities

I always feel quite energetic before Holloween. There are so many activities I can do with the kids. We made some Jack-O-Lanterns (we call it nánguādēng 南瓜灯 )yesterday.

For the kids to learn Chinese while having fun,  I have made some Chinese Paper Cutting patterns. The students at today’s classes (Davigdor Infant School) made their Chinese paper cutting of nánguādēng.

At Monday’s lesson in another school with a bit older kids, I showed them a Chinese Papercutting Art book by one of the best Chinese Paper cutting Artists–Chen wenhong ( 陈文红)who also is my cousin. Kids were amazed by the incredible art works.

Here is the book cover.

This is one of the students’ favorites. It is called 飞 fēi —flying.

Talking about Chinese Paper Cutting.

This child is working on zhīzhū 蜘蛛 ---spider pattern.

Tulia is proud of her biānfú 蝙蝠 --- bat cutting.

Here is an example of the patterns I have made.  If you are interested, you can go to our download page to download the PDFs and have a go.
