To teach the kids how to say the most popular fruit names in Chinese, we made a song called “I eat fruits.” Singing along the song, kids learn píngguǒ (apple), xiāngjiāo(banana), cǎoméi(strawberry) etc….

To extend this to more fruit words in Chinese, I read The Very Hungry Caterpillar in Chinese to the kids at Toddler group, and 3-6 years old group.

Although they enjoyed the story, I knew they wouldn’t remember all the fruits names and weeks in Chinese. So I made an activity called “Feed my caterpillar”.

There are two A4 pages. First A4 page has got the very hungry caterpillar with 6 days from Monday to Saturday in Chinese which are also the caterpillar’s body. Kids will need cut out all the fruits (in Chinese) which are in the second page, then choose which fruits to feed the caterpillar on each day.

Kids had a great fun while learning the words in Chinese. Here are some pictures.
