Summer Mandarin Camp

A well structured fun three day Summer Mandarin Camp Event. This year’s Mandarin camp will be fully packed with Chinese cultural fun activities. We will be mainly focusing on Chinese classic Tang poems along with ancient Guqin music, Chinese Dim sum cooking, tea ceremony, brush ink painting, board games, Chinese calligraphy, all about chopsticks and Chinese popular sports games.

Schedule for the three days:

Tuesday 30th July 2019

10:30am—10:45am:
Warm up with Chinese board games including Weiqi围棋 Chinese Go for age 8+, 象棋 Xiangqi for age 9 + , Wuziqi五子棋 Five in a go for age 5+,跳棋 Tiaoqi for age 6+ . and Chinese abacus games for all age groups.

10:45am—10:50 婧老师表演中国古琴,然后孩子们随古琴吟唱唐诗-静夜思 Chinese Guqin music performed by Jing Laoshi

10:50am—11:00 以唱的方式学三字经及校园歌曲 Learning Tang Dynasty poems, the three character classic San Zi Jing and other Chinese songs.

11:00am—12:20pm: All about Bao 煎包和包子: It is a hand-on activity in which kids learn how to make two types of Bao, Jianbao and Baozi (meat and vegetarian versions);
learning the key Chinese words and phrases at the same time;

Learning food vocabularies in Chinese and words pairing games

1:15pm —1:30pm Table Tennis Pingpong skills run by National champion number 12 Louis Treffel 好玩的乒乓球

1:30pm — 2:50pm Art & Craft:  Chinese Calligraphy and Painting中国书法和国画,

Learn to use Chinese bamboo brush to paint Chinese Zodiac with ink on rice paper Xuan, using the fun method of pictogram, then make it into a piece of art to take home, or painting on Chinese silk fan 教孩子们在宣纸上用甲骨文象形文字画十二生肖并学写有关的汉字, 或在团扇上画画, 并做成一幅书法艺术品 for age 8 +

For younger students, they can draw instead of brush, they also can play Chinese characters and ancient Jiaguwen pictogram card pairing games 低龄孩子可用笔画,也可玩现代汉字与象形文字甲骨文的配对游戏 for age 6 +

2:50pm—3:00pm: Tide up, wash hand and get ready for going home

3:00pm: Home time 回家

婧老师弹古琴,然后孩子们随古琴吟唱唐诗-静夜思和李叔同的送别-Chinese Guqin music by Jing Laoshi and children to sing along a Tang dynasty poem & a well-known song Farewell.

11:00am—12:20pm:
Chinese Dim Sum dumplings workshop 煎饺和水饺: This is a hands-on activity in which kids learn how to make  fried and boiled dumplings (meant version, and vegetarian version with Tofu);
learn the key Chinese words and phrases at the same time;

12:20pm—12:30pm

Jing to show students a Chinese brush painting cartoon film about Guqin to show them the two ancient Chinese Arts.

12:30pm—1:00pm:
Chinese Dim Sum dumplings for lunch 煎饺和水饺

1:00pm—1:15pm: Learning food vocabularies in Chinese and words pairing games

1:15pm —1:45pm Chinese kids playground games such as Tijianzi,  Renshabao and kids Taiji Gongfu

1:45pm — 2:50pm Art & Craft:  Making Chinese seals on corks with the Chinese characters children will have chosen, or design and paint a Beijing Opera Mask 印章设计制作或设计并画京剧脸谱

2:50pm—3:00pm: Tide up, wash hand and get ready for going home

3:00pm: Home time 回家

Chinese Dim Sum steamed Sticky Rice Bamboo leaf wraps w/ chicken Nuo mi ji 粽叶糯米鸡 workshop: This is a hands-on activity in which kids learn how to make Nuo mi ji(vegetarian version with Tofu);
learn the key Chinese words and phrases at the same time;

Chinese calligraphy: Jing laoshi to show children Chinese scholar’s four treasures and the style of Zhuanshu, children to learn the basic strokes, then a couple of characters, at end to work on their work, aiming to finish one art work, or painting on Chinese silk fan  婧老师介绍中国传统文化之一的文人文房四宝,教孩子们如何写篆书并做成一幅书法艺术品,或在团扇上画画

2:40pm—3:00pm:
Kids performance— singing song Farewell 《送别》& chunxiao《春晓》& Wode hao mama 我的好妈妈 in Chinese 孩子们的表演

3:00pm: Home time 回家  结束

Cost   : £ 35 per day per student (Healthy Chinese Dim Sum lunch included)

You can book for one day at £35, two days at £68, three days at £100.

Suitable for kids age: 6  – 12
It is a drop off event. You can drop then wander down to Brighton for a relaxing lunch.

Jing Wang is a Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate holder.

The lunch is vegetarian and meat versions with organic ingredients when we can source. Please let us know if your children have any special diet requirement.
